*TW: sexual assault and eating disorders
"He's a good kid with a bright future ahead of him" - Just one of many things said to me about my sexual abuser by a "trusted" adult figure.
When I spoke up about my sexual assault over a decade ago I was met with so many questions, and doubt. Speaking up about what had happened to me, and dealing with the backlash from adults and peers in my high school was almost worse than the incident itself.
Years later I am just now finally able to connect the dots between what had happened in that classroom back in 9th grade, and the severity of where my eating disorder stemmed from. (The power of therapy is amazing you guys..)
This episode was hard to record, hard to edit, and even harder to release to the world. But my story, like many others' needs to be heard.
I hope you find the courage to speak up, and ask for help after hearing this. Although challenging at times standing up for myself was the best thing I could have ever done.
